Pressing Issue: Yemen Humanitarian Crisis

June 30, 2020

Yemen is facing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world today, and possibly the worst famine the world has ever seen. An estimated 24 million people are food-insecure and need emergency assistance and basic necessities. Half of the population is on the brink of starvation. One child dies every ten minutes. There are over 1 million cholera cases, 25% of which are children.

Many people do not have regular access to safe water for basic hygiene and survival. Two million people are internally displaced as they flee in desperate search for safety. The conflict has resulted in 1.8 million children now suffering from acute malnutrition, and over one million pregnant and breastfeeding women are malnourished, according to the United Nations.

COVID-19 is currently making conditions worse as the conflict and resulting crisis continues to devastate the country.

During the past four years of intense conflict between Government forces and Houthi, tens of thousands have been left dead or injured, including at least 17,700 civilians as verified by the UN.

The world needs our help. No, you cannot single-handedly save those suffering in Yemen, but your spare change can add up and make a huge impact. Here are some organizations working tirelessly to help those who need it most right now:
