How does GiveTide work? After you have attached your bank, GiveTide will automatically round up the spare change on your everyday puchases to the nearest dollar. You can set a weekly cap to automatically turn off roundups after a specific amount. Your roundups are periodically charged to your account and transferred to a fiduciary donor-advised fund. Your in-app donations are relayed to the donor-advised fund, which executes them on your behalf. This structure creates a seamless donation experience, while simultaneously protecting the integrity of your donations.
-
How do I add my nonprofit to GiveTide?Easy! If you work for a nonprofit: Visit www.givetide.com/nonprofitregistration and complete the brief setup survey. Once you have submitted the survey, we will create your account and reach out to the contact email you provide within 24 hours. If you're a donor: Simply send an email to contact@givetide.com and we'll have your desired organization up and running within 24 hours!
-
How long does it take for my roundups to appear in my GiveTide account?Your roundups are calculated every 4-6 hours, and transferred to a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) within 1-2 business days. You can donate the second the DAF receives the transfer!
-
Is GiveTide secure?Absolutely, security is our top priority. Your sensitive information never touches our servers. Bank authentication, roundup monitoring, and donation processing are handled by our trusted payment partners, all of which are subject to stringent federal regulations, including regular NACHA compliance audits and penetration testing. Any and all sensitive information is tokenized and transmitted over encrypted tunnels. We use the same system trusted by Digit, Truebill, Level Money, Wealthfront, Betterment, Robinhood, Acorns, CharityWater, LendingClub, Upstart, Stripe, Coinbase, Venmo, TransferWise, Justworks, Gusto, Zenefits, Expensify, Abacus, Affirm, OnDeck, and Fundera, just to name a few. We've got you covered.
-
Are my donations tax deductible?Your donations, less fees, should be 100% tax-deductible. However, we must recommend that you certify the tax-deductibility of your GiveTide donations with your tax advisor.
-
Is GiveTide Free?GiveTide is free to use for donors. Nonprofits are charged 8% of Round-up donations, and 2.79% of one-time donations. Our donor-advised fund partner charges 1% bringing the total fundraising percentages to 9% and 3.79%, respectively. GiveTide Plus members are eligible to receive a discounted fee of 5% on Round-up donations. If your organization is interested in joining the GiveTide Plus Program, please reach out to Contact@GiveTide.com. Donations are 100% tax-deductible to donors, and fees are collected before being sent to recipient nonprofits, eliminating the administrative burden.

How do I connect my bank?To connect your bank: Navigate to the "Profile" tab in the app Select "Payment Settings" Select "Link an account" Select your bank and verify your credentials Select "Continue" Select your Funding Source and hit "Next" Select your Roundup Source(s) and hit "Next" Customize your weekly cap and press "Complete"
-
What is a Funding Source? This is the account from which roundups are withdrawn, and it must be an ACH account (e.g. checking/savings). Your Funding Source must be ACH because credit card vendors typically charge a fixed fee of $.30 per transaction, which wouldn't make sense when donating spare change!
-
What is a Roundup Source?Roundup Sources are the accounts used to calculate roundups, and can be debit cards OR credit cards. You can add additional Roundup Sources even if they are with another bank. For example, you can use your day-to-day credit card to generate roundups (Roundup Source), which are actually withdrawn from your checking account (Funding Source).
-
Can I round up with a credit card instead of a debit card?Yes! Once you've connected a Funding Source, simply select "Add another card" on the Payment Settings page, then follow the step-by-step instructions! You can connect a separate credit card even if it is with another bank.
-
I can't find my bank. How can I tell if it's supported?GiveTide supports 1,700+ financial institutions. If you don't see your bank listed, try searching a few different keywords (some banks are listed as acronyms, for example). If you still can't find your bank, please email us at Contact@GiveTide.com and we will do our best to get you set up.
-
How do I set a weekly cap on my roundups? You can set and change your weekly roundup limit whenever you like. To do so: Select the "Profile" tab Select "Weekly Cap" Adjust your weekly cap using the sliding bar Select "Save"
-
Can I disable my weekly cap on roundups?Yes! Simply toggle "Disable weekly cap" in your Weekly Cap settings. This will let you round up on every purchase you make with your connected Roundup Source. The sliding bar will turn gray when you have successfully disabled your weekly cap.
-
How do I temporarily pause my roundups? To pause your roundups, just deselect your Roundup Source(s). To deselect your Roundup Sources: Navigate to the "Profile" tab Select "Payment Settings" Tap the arrow next to the account listed under "Roundup Source(s)" Uncheck all boxes and select "Save" If you have connected multiple Roundup Sources, simply repeat from step 3!
-
How do I donate my roundups?Once you have accrued some spare change, it's time to get giving! To find an organization, navigate to the "Explore" tab. You can use the searchbar to find specific organizations, or explore by category. Once you have found a charity, you can create a GiveGoal (explained below), or join a GiveGoal that one of your friends has already started. Once you have created a GiveGoal or joined someone else's, it will appear on your "Home" tab. To donate, simply tap the charity's logo!
-
What is a GiveGoal?A GiveGoal is a pledge to raise a specific amount for a charity over any period of time; it can be kept personal or shared with friends. There is no "right" amount for a GiveGoal, that's entirely up to you. GiveGoals are the primary way to donate in GiveTide. When you want to donate to a specific organization, you can do so by creating a GiveGoal for that organization or by joining an existing GiveGoal. For example, you could create a $2 GiveGoal for the "Against Malaria Foundation" to send a mosquito net to rural Africa. Or you could invite some friends to tackle a $50 GiveGoal, and help "Conservation International" protect 2 acres of the Amazon from deforestation. The possibilities are literally endless.
-
How do I invite a friend to my GiveGoal? When you create a GiveGoal, you will automatically be prompted to invite Facebook friends that use GiveTide. Simply check the box next to friends that might be interested in contributing to your goal!
-
Can I join a friend's GiveGoal for a specific charity?Sure! To join a friend's GiveGoal for a charity: Navigate to the "Explore" tab and search for the charity Select the charity Instead of entering an amount on the "GiveGoal" screen, scroll down the page to find existing GiveGoals Select your friend's GiveGoal

Which nonprofits does GiveTide support?Part of our mission is to empower you, the donor, to be able to make your own unique impact. That's why we built GiveTide to support any 501(c)(3) that is in good standing with the IRS. However, there are over 1.5 million nonprofits in the United States, many of which are confusingly similar. You can currently support any nonprofit that we have built a relationship with, or that was requested by another GiveTide user. If the charity you want to support isn't listed, you can easily send us the name of the organization through the app, and we will have it listed within 24 hours. That's our promise to you.
-
When do organizations receive my donation?Your donations are sent monthly via paper check! Don't worry, the irony isn't lost on us.
-
How do I request an charity be added to GiveTide? To request a charity, first make sure it isn't already listed by searching for it in the "Explore" tab. If your search comes up blank, simply tap the "Let us know" link and shoot us an email. As long as it is in good standing with the IRS, we will have that charity up on the app within 24 hours.
-
Can I make a one-time donation using GiveTide?Absolutely! As a matter of fact, GiveTide is the ONLY iOS application to allow you to make one-time donations in a 100% in-app experience. Other services require you to leave the app to confirm donations in a mobile browser like Safari. To make a one-time donation, simply find an organization through the "Explore" tab, and tap "Make a One-Time Donation." You will be prompted to verify your gift using Touch ID.
